Another day, another few million dollars are added to the impressive, record-breaking box office haul for "Marvel's The Avengers." We've almost beaten the "How high will it go?" story to death at this point, but when we can pose the question to one of the film's stars like fan favorite Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson), we have a new spin to sell.
When MTV News caught up with the amiable actor in the lead-up to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday (June 3), we asked him what other 2012 movies might beat the box office totals of "The Avengers."
"I'm really excited to see 'Prometheus' because I love the original 'Alien' so much, but it looks really scary and I don't know if it will be the same family fare that 'The Avengers' is," Gregg said of Ridley Scott's highly-anticipated sci-fi thriller. "'Avengers' manages to be exciting and hard-hitting and there is kind of nobody who can't see it. It's going to be tough to beat. I'm a little biased, but I think it's petty terrific, yet we've got 'The Dark Knight Rises' coming."
Gregg went on to say that the film's worldwide success has been a surprise to everyone, including the cast members.
"I thought it was a great script and I knew it was a terrific cast I was giddy to be at work with," Gregg said. "You never really know if it's going to gel and you don't know how the effects are going to be, and to sit there with an audience of people opening night and see that their reaciton was even more excited and gaspy than the one I saw at the world premiere, I thought, 'Well, this semes like it works,' but I don't think anybody had any idea it was going to take off like it did."
