Casting announcements are flying fast and furiously on the Marvel Studios front, so there's very little time to get this one in: someone's going to play the Enchantress in "Thor 2." Kevin Feige has teased that a "major new villain" will step onto the scene when next we see Asgard, and even with Mads Mikkelsen already in the picture, smart money has long been down on Enchantress as the next baddie to put Thor through hell and back.
For those not in the know, Amora the Enchantress is easily one of Thor's most notable nemeses in comic book lore. Mind control is the leading name of her game, with her powers largely used towards charming her victims into doing her bidding — not unlike Loki in a lot of ways. It's a juicy part for any number of actresses, and we've got our own wish list of leading ladies to tackle the (admittedly hypothetical) role.

Back when "Monster" director Patty Jenkins was attached to the "Thor" sequel, I figured it was just a matter of weeks until Theron's casting was announced. It never happened, and though Jenkins' departure lessens the likelihood, there's no question that the Oscar winner would be perfect for the role. That said, I am in love with Alan Kistler's idea of casting Theron as Carol Danvers, so I'll happily see Amora go to someone else. Someone like…
The "Devil Wears Prada" actress has flirted with Marvel before. She was linked to Black Widow once upon a time, and was later a top candidate to play Peggy Carter in "Captain America." The English actress has made no secret that she thinks "the female parts in a superhero film feel thankless," but there will be nothing thankless about a meaty role such as Enchantress. Blunt would kill it as the Asgardian sorceress.
This Oscar nominee very nearly played a part in the upcoming "Iron Man 3." Though she bowed out due to scheduling issues, Chastain openly expressed interest in having "another Marvel film in [her] future." How about "Thor 2" as Enchantress, then? Chastain's characters tend to err on the sympathetic side; Amora would present a very different kind of role for the "Take Shelter" star, one I'd be very excited to see her play.
"Game of Thrones" director Alan Taylor is headed to Asgard for "Thor 2," so why not bring a fellow Westerosi along for the ride? Headey, the woman who brings Queen-Regent Cersei Lannister to horrifying life on a weekly basis, is an obvious candidate for the part of Enchantress. Equal parts stunning and cruel, Headey has the perfect mixture of gravitas and genre cred to deliver an Enchantress that would haunt viewers well after the credits roll.
Dormer, who plays Margaery Tyrell to mischievous and alluring heights, a fantastic fit here. Take one long look at her devious grin and tell me you wouldn't obey her every command. She's perhaps the least known name on this list, but that could work very well in budget-conscious Marvel's favor. Don't forget the studio's previous casting of then-unknowns Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, after all; that choice worked out pretty well.
