Jessica Chastain’s schedule might be too busy for a meeting of the minds with Tony Stark, but her absence leaves the door wide open for British actress Rebecca Hall.
Hall, star of “The Town” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” is up for the same “Iron Man 3” role that didn’t work out for Chastain, reports Deadline. She’s currently in talks for the supporting part that many are already identifying as scientist Maya Hansen, a character prominently featured in the Warren Ellis-penned “Extremis” story that’s supposedly the foundation of director Shane Black’s “Iron Man” sequel.
Chastain herself had to bow out of the role earlier this week, informing her fans on Facebook: “Sorry to say that ’Iron Man’ 3 isn’t going to work out. My schedule is jammed packed and I can’t fit anything else in. The press announced my possible attachment far too soon. I know many of you wanted me to be involved, and I’m so sorry to disappoint you. Hopefully there’ll be another Marvel film in my future. Shane Black and everyone on the IM3 team are really wonderful. I’m very excited to see the film when it comes out. xx”
Sad as I am to see Chastain go, Hall is an equally gifted actress and will undoubtedly do great things with her “Iron Man” character. Besides, Chastain’s exit leaves the possibility for the actress returning to Marvel in a more prominent role down the line — the Bobbi Morse to Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton in a “S.H.I.E.L.D.” movie, perhaps?
