Tom Hiddleston Hints At Loki's Redemption In 'Thor 2'

Few actors have really taken to playing a character as over-the-top as a super villain quite like Tom Hiddleston has to embodying Loki. The nemesis of the Avengers is the whole reason that the ultimate superhero team is able to come together, so all of us are really indebted to Hiddleston's dedication.

When we spoke with Hiddleston at the Tribeca Film Festival, you could see the cogs in his wonderfully British head already turning. This man loves to play Loki, and he's eager to keep playing him.

Having signed on to "Thor 2" eons ago, it's no secret that Loki will see another day beyond the conclusion of "The Avengers." But where does one go after taking on a team of Earth's Mightiest Heroes and jeopardizing the fate of the human race?

Hiddleston's answer? Even lower.

That's right. Hiddleston wants to push Loki even further into the dark side and insists that it's possible. "I'd like to take [Loki] to his absolute rock bottom," Hiddleston said. "I'd like to see him yield, essentially, to his darkest instincts. Then, having hit rock bottom, maybe come back up."

Hiddleston sees Loki as a character that can trade sides, as he is known to in the comic books. The actor even hopes that one day we may see full-on "good guy" Loki.

"I think the fascination for me about playing Loki is that, in the history of the mythology and the comic books and the Scandinavian myths, is he's constantly dancing on this fault line of the dark side and redemption," Hiddleston said. "I don't know when, but it will be so fun to see him see the light again and be recruited to the good side."
