'Avengers' Premiere, 'Hunger Games' Loses Ross And More In Talk Nerdy

by Joel Hanek

With a little less than a month to go before it's official theatrical release, "The Avengers" premiered earlier this week to rave reviews. While Splash Page Editor Josh Wigler is convinced this is the Marvel movie we have all been waiting for, fellow "Talk Nerdy" panelists Brian Phares and Eric Ditzian still have their reservations about Whedon's envision. Remember, your boo's and hiss's at Eric and Brian work better if they're done in unison.

And while "Avengers" is predicted to make an obscene amount of money at the box office, "The Hunger Games" already has proven to be the movie to beat at the box office this year. Even so, the surprising departure of director Gary Ross from the series has shocked many fans. The resident "Nerds" discuss what this means for the series—but more importantly, allows us to revisit our dream-director wish list. I’m personally voting for Wes Anderson.

We still have some time before we can catch "Avengers" in theaters and even longer before any glimpse of "Catching Fire", the Nerds look to the box office this weekend as Joss Whedon continues to dominate everything cool with the much anticipated and enigmatic "Cabin in the Woods" hits theaters. Also out this week: the sci-fi on steroids space-prison flick "Lockout." While the "Nerdy" jury is still out on Whedon’s other big project, the panel agrees: "Cabin" is the winner.
