‘Walking Dead’ Creator Robert Kirkman’s ‘Thief Of Thieves’ Heads To AMC

by Ryan Rigley

It’s one thing when a comic book that you wrote becomes a sensational television show beloved by all. But two comic books? If anyone deserves that praise, it’s certainly Robert Kirkman.

Best known for creating “The Walking Dead” and acting as executive producer on the show, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Kirkman’s newest comic book series, “Thief of Thieves,” is now in development over at AMC.

This should come as no surprise, being as Kirkman’s “Walking Dead” has done incredibly well commercially for the cable network. Raking in a total of 9 million viewers for its season finale, “Walking Dead” continues to reach the much-coveted age demographics that advertisers so desperately seek. Click past the jump for more on “Thief of Thieves.”

“Much like ’The Walking Dead’ brought horror to television in a unique and groundbreaking way, I feel ’Thief of Thieves’ can do the same thing for heist stories, showing the humanity of all the characters, including the criminals,” Kirkman explains.

“Thief of Thieves” revolves around Conrad Paulson, a master thief with a grown son that he hardly knows and an ex-wife that he’s still secretly in love with. While struggling to get out of thievery, Conrad settles on only stealing items that have already been stolen. Now he must try to piece his life back together before the FBI can finally catch up with him.

Stealing things that have already been stolen. Sounds kind of like killing people that kill people. Not so coincidentally, Chic Eglee, whose credits include Showtime’s hit-series “Dexter,” will be attached to the project as showrunner if “Thief of Thieves” moves to series.

“AMC recognizes the limitless ideas generated by the comic industry,” claims Kirkman. “Their dedication to bringing ’The Walking Dead’ to life as a TV show has been key to its success and I’m excited about the potential of ’Thief of Thieves’ to reach similar levels of success.”

With all of this success that Kirkman’s comics have been seeing lately, it seems like only a matter of time before we get that “Invincible” TV show that we’ve all been dreaming about. Although, we’d settle for “Battle Pope.”
