'Amazing Spider-Man' Game Teaser Arrives, Full Trailer On Saturday

I want "The Amazing Spider-Man" (the movie) to be great, I really do. Along those same lines, hope fills my heart that in some magical moment of brilliance, the associated videogame from Activision and Beenox will actually work as an enjoyable representation of the property. Of course, that's still up in the air right now, as the only details surrounding the title are gleaned from concept art.

Thankfully, that's about to change on Saturday night. Activision has announced that a world premiere trailer will air during the Spike Video Games Awards on December 10. In the meantime, we get a – albeit very brief – glimpse at the game today, thanks to a brand-new teaser trailer (via HeroHQ).

OK, so there's not a whole lot to go on here. The teaser shows Spidey webbing around town, soaring near a helicopter, and then apparently taking on some large opponent. The visuals look decent, and the video highlights what could make or break the game: Spider-Man's movement.

Beenox is no newcomer to the licensed franchise, but where 2010's "Shattered Dimensions" was well-received, this year's Spider-Man game, "Edge of Time," fell flat with critics. The look of "Amazing" gives me hope, but it's just too early to tell if the game can get the franchise back on track. Hopefully the full trailer on Saturday night will shed a little more light on the subject.

Developing licensed titles, particularly those that adapt movies, is always a daunting prospect. The studios are usually pressured to get the game out the door to coincide with the film release, and more times than not, the company's desire to recreate the movie's narrative leads to garbage games. Thankfully, Beenox isn't trying to re-tell the big screen "Amazing," they're just picking up where the film's story leaves off.

Just a hint, Beenox: "Batman: Arkham City."
