Marvel Pinball Goes Mobile With Wolverine And Captain America

Zen Studios knows how to make a pinball videogame. It's no easy task – creating digital games that somehow maintain the feel of analog tables, but Zen has proven more than capable over the past few years with a stable of enjoyable games. Personally, Xbox Live game "Pinball FX 2" has eaten away hours of my life, thanks in no small part to the incredibly satisfying leaderboard system and the inclusion of some amazingly executed Marvel-themed tables.

Now, a selection of those Marvel tables are coming to iOS and Android devices via downloadable content.

If you're a Marvel fan, and in any way enjoy the catharsis of rolling that little steel ball around a playfield, there's a good chance you'll find something to like in these new Marvel tables. Android (Tegra-powered) devices and iOS users can both check out the tables right now through previously released games "Zen Pinball THD" and "Zen Pinball," respectively.

The great thing about Zen Studios pinball games is the way each table blends old-school pinball mechanics with the freedom of the digital format. The balls roll realistically, there's plenty of authentic flashy lights and small character figurines, but what if those figurines could actually animate around the playfield after a nice hit? The Marvel tables, in particular, take advantage of the Zen formula and are really quite fun.

The app itself is free (yay!), but the Marvel tables are going to cost you (aww). Each table – Captain America and Wolverine are currently available – will run you two bucks. Not a bad deal, considering the addictive nature of the game already has me jacked into playing all the time. I downloaded the Captain America table, and I'm pleased to report it holds up well in comparison to the quality of "Pinball FX 2."

Of course, there is something lost in using a touch-screen instead of a standard controller's trigger buttons. When you're flipping what should be an analog interface, tapping a screen doesn't really cut it. Additionally, playing on the iPad's – or Android tablet's – larger screen is definitely more comfortable than squinting at your phone's display.

What do you think about Marvel pinball going mobile? Have you played the game and crushed Matt Clark's high score? Probably. Let us know in the comments and on Twitter!
