One of the ultimate signs of a studio’s confidence in a project is to commission a screenplay for the sequel before the original hits theaters. This happened most recently with “Real Steel,” which got the order for a sequel script, before it pleasantly surprised audiences and critics last month.
According to a rumor originally appearing on the awesomely named ThinkMcFlyThink, the latest film to get the early sequel script order is none other than Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, “Man of Steel.”
The report claims that Warner Bros. already has a shortlist of potential scribes for the sequel with “Harry Potter” writer Steve Kloves at the very top.
The two other writers mentioned in the rumor are Travis Beacham of “Clash of the Titans” and the upcoming Guillermo del Toro film “Pacific Rim” and the legendary Lawrence Kasdan, the man behind “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
This is all still based on tentative speculation, but if the rumors were true, this would be the first indication of an opinion on Snyder’s “Man of Steel.” Though the order for a sequel script is far from a ringing endorsement of the film. A script for “Green Lantern 2” was commissioned after all. But with so little information about the Superman film coming through the pipeline, the rumors, if at all true, would at the very least bode well for the studio’s confidence in Supes. Someone somewhere would have to like what Snyder is doing.
