Kristen Stewart Offered 'Akira' Female Lead?

Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart's been plagued by vampires, gone toe-to-toe against evil queens alongside the seven dwarves, and now it's possible that she'll be invading Neo-Tokyo… err, Neo-Manhattan, that is.

Twitch reports that the "Twilight" actress has been offered the role of Kei in "Akira," Warner Bros. and director Jaume Collet-Sera's adaptation of the classic anime and manga series. If she signs on, she'll join a cast that includes Garrett Hedlund as biker boss Kaneda. "Harry Potter" stars Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter have also been made offers, but so far neither party has signed on for the feature.

Stewart's possible casting is sure to divide an already fragile fan base that's frustrated with the way "Akira" is shaking out. But until the ink dries on the contract, perhaps it's premature to start feeling too strongly one way or the other. Besides, Stewart's "Twilight" reputation won't do her any favors in the comic book crowd, but the trailer for her newest movie, "Snow White and the Huntsman," does look pretty awesome. Take a look:

If Stewart signs on for "Akira" -- again, that's a big if -- do you think that lessens or increases the odds that Robert Pattinson comes aboard as Tetsuo, as previously rumored? Suddenly, this whole "Akira" adaptation is starting to get a little bit sparkly...
