'Man Of Steel' Villain Michael Shannon Has Two General Zod Costumes

It turns out we'll get our General Zod two ways when "Man of Steel" hits theaters in June 2013.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly about his role on "Boardwalk Empire," Michael Shannon shared some of his experience with the various costumes he wears in the upcoming Superman reboot.

Along of the lines of another recent DC Comics adaptations, Shannon says that one of General Zod's two costumes will be added in post-production, similar to Hal Jordan's costume in "Green Lantern." "There’s something that I have to wear a motion-capture suit for, because if I actually wore it, I wouldn’t be able to move. It’s a very big…thing" Shannon said. "I actually don’t know what it’s going to look like, I just know that it’s very cumbersome."

Interestingly, Shannon refers to the two outfits as "different modes," saying that his other costume is a much more wearable, real-world costume. "There’s another thing that I wear that’s an actual costume. It’s pretty simple. There’s no paisley or anything."

So far, we've seen images of Shannon from set in his motion capture suit. When the pictures hit, it seemed that the costume would take on a form similar to Ryan Reynolds' costume in "Green Lantern," a look that definitely didn't have everyone sold. Now with the news of General Zod's second costume, fans who were skeptical of an entirely CGI-outfitted Zod may breathe a sigh of relief. Could Zod's practical costume take a form similar to the outfit seen previously on Antje Traue as Faora from the on-set pictures?
