James McAvoy Up For 'X-Men: First Class' Sequels

It still isn’t official that there will be any sequels to “X-Men: First Class,” but if there are, James McAvoy will definitely be back as Professor X.

“I’d be up for it,” the Scottish actor said in an interview with Total Film. “But the truth is I’m contractually obliged to be up for it because they made us all sign multiple picture deals!”

There has been talk about what would happen in the sequels, though McAvoy couldn’t go into detail. “I’ve spoken to Matthew [Vaughn] about ideas, but I can’t tell you what they are because they may or may not be the story,” he said. “One thing I liked about our one was that it was different from the other three films where the X-Men are the good guys, Wolverine’s figuring out who he is and Magneto is the bad guy.”

“This was a completely different thing,” he went on. “Magneto wasn’t a bad guy, we were friends. We’re now set up to go back to the way the other movies are, so we’ve got to try to be cleverer than that.”

McAvoy does have a point that any sequels would need to have their own kind of edge to stick out amongst the other “X-Men” films. But even if he’d technically be returning as Professor X because of contracts, he sounds attached to the franchise and ready to get back in front of the cameras.
