'Avengers' Requires Agent Coulson To 'Step Up,' Tease Clark Gregg

As we saw in the most recent Marvel One-Shot, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer," Agent Coulson (played by Clark Gregg) has had some moves he's been hiding. With the great superhero meet-up that will be "The Avengers" imminent and promises of Nick Fury finally getting some action, you have to wonder when Coulson's going to get his big break out.

We asked Gregg at New York Comic-Con what we would see from Agent Coulson in "The Avengers" after spending so many films on the sideline, but he wasn't so keen to talk. Apparently, his life depends on keeping secrets.

"There is so little I can say without either Marvel or Nick Fury choking me to death in my sleep," Gregg said.

Gregg was, however, able to offer one helpful, if somewhat cryptic, hint.

"I will say — as anyone who's seen the trailer knows — there's a reason we're trying to get all of these different, crazy superheroes in one room," the occasional S.H.I.E.L.D. agent teased. "It's because there's a threat that's formidable enough to require that they be in one room, and if that's going on, you better believe Agent Coulson's going to have to step up."

There you have it. It seems like we're going to have more action from Coulson, along the lines of what we saw in the Marvel One-Shot. That's only fair considering they gave Nick Fury a bazooka. It's the least Marvel could do.
