During the post-credits sequence in “Thor,” it was revealed that Selvig was now somehow connected to the trickster god Loki. Though Skarsgard remains tight lipped on exactly how Selvig’s arc plays out in “The Avengers,” he’s revealed that his part in the film is a crucial one.
“It’s not a big role but it’s pivotal,” the actor told Superhero Hype in a new interview, adding that he knew about his character’s future while shooting the “Thor” stinger, which was directed by “Avengers” helmer Joss Whedon.
Given his connection to Loki, one would imagine that Selvig is going to be in some serious danger when “The Avengers” rolls into town. Thankfully, it doesn’t sound like he’s going anywhere anytime soon, as the actor hinted at the possibility of returning for the developing sequel to “Thor.”
“Well, they mentioned it, and they’ve talked to my agent about it,” he said regarding a potential “Thor 2″ return, “but I haven’t seen any script or anything yet.”
Whether or not he’s in “Thor 2,” it sounds like Skarsgard’s going to see more action in “The Avengers,” considering that he was barely connected to Asgard at all in his first Marvel appearance.
“I saw sketches of [Asgard], but I was working on the film in New Mexico. I was working on a very realistic down to earth film, and then suddenly one day, the Warriors Three show up and you really wondered, ’How is this going to work?’ That was cool,” he laughed. “I think it was challenging for Kenneth to weave those two different universes together, but I think he really pulled it off beautifully.”
