"Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" doesn't roar into theaters for another few months, but that's not going to keep the Rider from bursting straight into your Friday.
In addition to the newly released "Ghost Rider" poster comes today's debut of the first official trailer for the superhero sequel. Click the image above to go check it out!
Nicolas Cage returns to the role of Johnny Blaze, a move that some (myself included) were initially disappointed by considering that the first "Ghost Rider" movie was… not so great, to put it lightly. But the addition of "Crank" and "Crank: High Voltage" filmmakers Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine put a lot of those fears to bed, for me at least. Sure, this might not be the iconic, true-to-the-comics "Ghost Rider" tale that fans have long been hoping for — I'm not sure that such a film is even possible, really — but it will be an insane Nic Cage pile-driver of awesome with all the adrenaline and ridiculousness that he and the Taylor/Neveldine team are so well known for.
The team was pretty exciting on paper, and reactions from their "Ghost Rider" Comic-Con panel only fueled that enthusiasm further. But for me, the new trailer puts anticipation for "Spirit of Vengeance" into full-on overdrive. The Rider's new ashen aesthetic, the gasoline-soaked skull, is inspired, not to mention terrifying. Johnny Whitworth as Blackout looks absolutely insane. And Idris Elba... well, he's just being Idris Elba, but isn't that badass enough?
