Johnny Depp Snags Rights To 'The Vault'

depp“The Vault” may have only been released earlier this week, but steps are already being made to turn it into a feature film. Yesterday Johnny Depp and Graham King announced they have purchased the rights to the sci-fi comic and are making plans to get it on the big screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christi Dembrowski, Graham King and Tim Headington are set to produce. The story follows deep sea divers who discover a sarcophagus in the inky depths and accidentally free a terrible force from it.

The graphic novel will be published in three issues, and as of now only the first one has been released. It’s unknown yet whether each issue could possibly become a movie, making a trilogy, or if just one film is planned to cover all three issues.

Sam Sarkar, the writer of “The Vault,” is Senior Vice President at Infinitum Nihil, Depp’s production company. In the past Sarkar, penned the graphic novel “Caliber,” which was illustrated by Garrie Gastonny, the same artist for “The Vault.”

This won’t be Depp’s first foray into the world of graphic novels turned into movies. He starred in “From Hell,” the loose adaptation of Alan Moore’s book, and is set to produce and star in the film “Rex Mundi.” King and Depp have worked together in the past on “Rango.”
