Not content to see Marvel getting all of the attention yesterday over Ultimate Spider-Man's race change, the powers that be behind "The Man of Steel" outed Laurence Fishburne as their new choice to play Clark Kent's boss, Perry White.
Of course, creators are still talking about the Spider-Man decision, too. They've just widened the conversation's scope. Check out what the last day's worth of debate has looked like, what Fred Van Lente predicts will really get readers talking and what a beautiful piece of original Jock Joker artwork looks like before it gets sent off to a buyer.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for August 3, 2011.
Perry White pt. 1: @ronmarz Don't think Laurence Fishburne should be Perry White? I'll bet if Laurence Fishburne told you hit your deadline, you'd damn well do it.
-Ron Marz, Writer ("Green Lantern," "Witchblade")
Perry White pt. 2: @robertliefeld So there's a black Invincible now, a black Spidey and a black Perry White. All bases are covered with all the big publishers.
-Rob Liefeld, Writer/Artist ("X-Force," "Youngblood")
Perry White pt. 4: @JAMALIGLE A Black Spider-man? Laurence Fishburne playing Perry White in The Man of Steel? What next, Jamal Igle draws Superman?, well actually, yes.
-Jamal Igle, Artist ("Supergirl," "Firestorm")
Perry White pt. 5: @mrmarkmillar Lawrence Fishburne as Perry White is nice casting on Superman. I've loved him ever since a pal pointed out he looks like Charlie Brooker.
-Mark Millar, Writer ("Kick-Ass," "Wanted")
Perry White pt. 5: @neilkleid Though I'll admit I was pulling for William H. Macy, I think Laurence Fishburne as Perry White is INSPIRED. I have a new pitch, @Wil_Moss
-Neil Kleid, Writer ("Ursa Minors," "Action, Ohio")
Spider-Man pt. 1: @nelsonblake2 I'm not mad at the vocal minority bigots using Spidey to vent. The true response is to support the book if @BRIANMBENDIS tells a good story.
-Nelson Blake II, Artist ("The Darkness," "Magdalena")
Spider-Man pt. 2: @Ravengregory So Spidey is black. Nothing else really needs to be said. Mucho excited. By Bendis no less. The guy who made Cage and Fury cool again
-Raven Gregory, Writer ("Tales from Wonderland," "The Gift")
Spider-Man pt. 3: @fredvanlente @StephenWacker Just wait til the Spider-Man/Wolverine wedding is announced. _Then_ you'll get letters.
-Fred Van Lente, Writer ("Action Philosophers," "Marvel Zombies")
-Jock, Artist ("The Losers," "Green Arrow: Year One")
