‘Man Of Steel': Laurence Fishburne Is Superman’s Boss

Superman, it’s time to take the red pill and meet your brand new boss!

The Matrix” star Laurence Fishburne is coming aboard “Man of Steel,” director Zack Snyder’s developing reboot of the Superman franchise. The Los Angeles Times reports that Fishburne has been tapped to play Perry White, the old school Daily Planet journalist who rules over the newsroom and passes down orders to mild mannered reporter Clark Kent.

MTV News has reached out to Warner Bros. to confirm the news, but they have declined to comment at this time.

It’s a change of pace for the character, as the Times points out that Fishburne is the first African American actor to take on the role of Perry White in any film, television or animated adaptation of the Superman story. Perry was previously played on film by Jackie Cooper in the Richard Donner era “Superman” movies, while Frank Langella stepped into the role for Bryan Singer’s “Superman Returns” in 2006 after “House” star Hugh Laurie left the production due to those ever pesky scheduling conflicts.

Fishburne joins an increasingly impressive cast in “Man of Steel,” settling in behind the news desk alongside actors like Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El and Julia Ormond as his wife.

With Perry now cast, it’s only a matter of time before we learn who’s playing the other prominent Daily Planet players like Jimmy Olsen. Also, still no word on Lex Luthor — is the bald one really sitting this out, or is an announcement imminent?
