It's looks like it's going to be fiery in the comment threads this week for anything involving the words "Ultimate" and "Spider-Man." Marvel revealed their new multi-racial Spidey last night, and the responses to the USA Today article, as well as on Twitter, have been full of support and, well, lack of support (to put it nicely).
Gail Simone loves the new concept. Ron Marz digs it too. Check out who'd rather see Marvel go in a different direction, as well as what Rob Liefeld had to say to Alex Ross about Captain Victory and who Ethan Nicolle would like to see cast in "Axe Cop."
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for August 2, 2011.
Ultimate Spider-Man pt. 1: @GailSimone I would love to see an African American Spider-man.
-Gail Simone, Writer ("Birds of Prey," "Wonder Woman")
Ultimate Spider-Man pt. 2: @KodyChamberlain Instead of retrofittig characters with a new race, why not just CREATE strong black characters? Nick Fury, Spiderman, Kingpin, etc.
-Kody Chamberlain, Writer/Artist ("Sweets," "Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu")
Ultimate Spider-Man pt. 3: @ronmarz If Black/Latino Spidey, written by a Jewish man and drawn by a woman, is making racist heads explode, I'm totally cool with that.
-Ron Marz, Writer ("Green Lantern," "Witchblade")
-Ethan Nicolle, Writer/Artist ("Axe Cop")
@robertliefeld Can someone tell Alex Ross that Captain Victory is NOT a 50 year old man!! Not Admiral Victory....
-Rob Liefeld, Writer/Artist ("X-Force," "Youngblood")
@StephenAtHome The Republicans would have gotten 100% of everything they asked for, but they couldn't find a tutu to fit Joe Biden.
-Stephen Colbert, Creator/Host ("Tek Jansen," "The Colbert Report")
@Templesmith I just exposed myself to the camera for @jerwa's documentary. Oh, this will be good.
-Ben Templesmith, Writer/Artist ("30 Days of Night," "Welcome to Hoxford")
@rstevens You can't change people. Not without a system disk and administrator privileges.
-R. Stevens, Writer/Artist ("Diesel Sweeties," "LOLbots")
