'Powers' TV Series Casts Deena Pilgrim

Lucy PunchFor weeks now, "Powers" co-creator Brian Michael Bendis has been teasing fans with vague reports on the casting for the FX television series based on his hit comic. Now we finally have a big piece of official casting news, with actress Lucy Punch cast as Officer Deena Pilgrim.

While Punch might not be the actress many fans were initially pulling for ("Battlestar Galactica" star Katee Sackhoff was an early favorite among fans), her resume includes a long list of films ("Hot Fuzz," "Dinner With Schmucks," etc.) that should have people feeling good about "Powers" impending arrival on the small screen. Her status as a relative unknown could also afford her more ability to make the role her own — something we'd all like to see in the much-anticipated, character-driven series.

According to Deadline, which first reported the casting, filming on "Powers" is slated to begin this summer in Chicago.

For those unfamiliar with "Powers," the series follows a pair of homocide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who investigate cases involving the use of super-human powers. The series is set in a world where powers are common, and law enforcement struggles to regulate those who use them.

Punch joins the only other cast member announced so far, Charles S. Dutton, who will play Deena and Christian's boss, Captain Cross. The "Powers" pilot was written by Charles H. Eglee, and will be directed by Michael Dinner.
