Johnny Depp's 'Rex Mundi' Adaptation Recruits New Screenwriters

Rex MundiIt’s been over two years since we last reported on “Rex Mundi” here at MTV Splash Page, but the project is once again moving forward. In 2008, there was talk about a script from Jim Uhls, and now two new writers have been brought on to work on the script.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal are to be the new writers for the adaptation of the Dark Horse Comics series. The pair previously worked on “Tron Legacy.”

While any news about turning “Rex Mundi” into a movie has been sparse and slow-coming so far, it already has one very big name attached to it. Johnny Depp is all set to produce as well as star in the film.

Based on a comic book by Arvid Nelson, “Rex Mundi” takes place in a world where the Inquisition still rules in the 20th century because the Reformation was never able to occur. This eventually leads to a quest for the Holy Grail.

Oh, and while some have compared the story to “The Da Vinci Code,” “Rex Mundi” was actually written first.
