New 'Green Lantern' Extended Trailer Debuts At San Francisco's WonderCon

After some initial uncertainty from the fans, Warner Bros. and DC Comics have struck back at nay-sayers by releasing a new four-minute “Green Lantern” extended trailer at last weekend’s WonderCon comic convention in San Francisco.

In the new teaser, viewers get their first in-depth look at the interstellar law enforcement organization that Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern represents. It also pushes the concept outside of a superhero version of “The Right Stuff” and more in-line as a sci-fi version of “Lord of the Rings.”

A majority of the scenes in the new trailer take place not on Earth, but in outer space and on the Green Lanterns Corps’ home planet of Oa.

This new trailer answers a lot of questions and worries that came out of the first trailer, with Warner Bros. worldwide Marketing President Sue Knoll acknowledging the uneven response to the first teaser in late 2010.

"Part of the reason the response to the first trailer was lukewarm was that the big-scale sequences weren't ready to show, and we suffered for it,” said the executive in an interview with MovieWeb last week. “We can't afford to do that again."

This new extensive trailer does a lot to strike back at people’s first impressions of the movie from the debut teaser. “Green Lantern’s" first full theatrical trailer will debut on May 6th in front of Marvel’s “Thor” movie, with the full film scheduled for release on June 17th.
