New 'X-Men: First Class' Character Details Revealed: Sebastian Shaw, Riptide, Azazel, And More!

Over the past few days, the "X-Men: First Class" Facebook page has been a hive of activity, with updated information, photos, as well as Q&A sessions with the producers, actors and directors. Of particular interest is the character bios that go beyond formal facts and give hints as to each character's origin and relation to others in this swinging '60s mutant tale.

Of all the information revealed, a standout is the character description for Hellfire Club head Sebastian Shaw (played by Kevin Bacon). Departing from his comic book origin, it reveals that Shaw was a Nazi collaborator and played a part in Magneto's childhood in the concentration camps of World War II.

The entry reads: "Shaw, a force of incalculable evil, was a Nazi collaborator whose early research forever altered the life of a young Erik Lensherr. Shaw can absorb energy and re-channel it, and he will stop at nothing to start a war to ensure that mutants inherit the earth."

There are also some interesting descriptions of Angel Salvadore, Azazel, and Riptide, three lesser-known characters who will get a spotlight in the film.

On Angel Salvadore: "The beautiful ex-dancer possesses a stunning tattoo of insect-like wings, which become actual wings growing from her back, giving her the gift of flight. Her arsenal is a deadly acid, which she projectile vomits in combat."

On Azazel: "A demonic figure, Azazel can teleport by opening a portal into another dimension. He is a key player in Sebastian Shaw's plans to make sure that mutants inherit the planet."

On Riptide: "Never far from the side of his leader, Sebastian Shaw, Riptide creates powerful whirlwinds that can demolish buildings and challenge even the most powerful mutants."

There's loads more to be found, with information on virtually every character in the upcoming film revealed.
