The first full-length "Captain America: The First Avenger" trailer is live, and though we've already seen many of the big moments in the early clips that were released, it's nice to see the whole package as it's meant to be presented.
Keep an eye on MTV Splash Page later today for a full breakdown of the trailer featuring your friendly neighborhood editor (me) and MTV Movies Blog editor (and former Splash Page writer) Josh Wigler, in which we talk smart about every little detail of the new footage. Until then, however, we've compiled a list of some of the key scenes from the new "Captain America" trailer.
From skinny Steve and Tony Stark's dad to Howling Commandos and a potential Cosmic Cube sighting, they're all in there! Oh, and SPOILER ALERT!
Along with getting more footage of skinny Steve Rogers, the new trailer does a bit of foreshadowing in this scene, having Steve use a trash can lid as a shield to protect himself from a bully. It's a pose he'll strike quite often throughout his career as Captain America, with the lid replaced by his iconic red, white, and blue shield.
We knew from interviews with "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau and other people involved with "The Avengers" and "Captain America" that Tony Stark's father, Howard Stark, would have a role to play in the creation of Captain America — and now we have our first look at him in action. It's not a Marvel movie without a call-out to the greater universe, and this is certainly a big one.
This great show of Captain America and what's believed to be the Howling Commandos is not only a beautiful image, but it also offers a nice look at Marvel's famous squad of WWII soldiers. Fans will certainly recognize Dum Dum Dugan (Neal McDonough) in the foreground, but we get an even better look at the squad later in the trailer.
We got a brief glimpse of the Howling Commandos wielding some sort of laser-based weaponry earlier in the trailer, and now we see the HYDRA ranks filled with soldiers outfitted with similar weapons. While it's a cool shot, that blue glow is worth noting — especially since it looks like the same blue glow that emanated from the Cosmic Cube uncovered by Red Skull in last year's Comic-Con footage.
This is a longer version of the same Howling Commandos scene that debuted during the Super Bowl, but we've learned a bit more about the team since then, and it gives us a nice opportunity to run through the checklist. From left to right, the group coming through the door would seem to consist of Montgomery "Union Jack" Falsworth (J.J. Feild), James "Bucky" Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Captain America, and Dum Dum Dugan. Derek Luke is also rumored to play Howling Commando Gabe Jones, and Kenneth Choi is expected to play another member of the squad, Jim Morita.
And possibly the most buzzworthy moment of the new trailer features Cap catching and slinging his shield — something fans have been waiting to see since the film was first announced. Looks pretty good to us, but what do you think?
