Zack Snyder Says 'Superman' Film Franchise Is 'Broken' And 'Needs To Be Fixed'

SupermanWith his upcoming film “Sucker Punch” just days away from release, director Zack Snyder isn’t pulling any punches about his next assignment on “Superman.” The film, currently going under the working title of “Superman: Man of Steel,” is the centerpiece for DC and parent company Warner Bros.’ plans for a full slate of superhero films.

“I think Superman is broken and needs to be fixed, from a movie stand point,” the director admitted in an audio interview with HollywoodOutbreak.com. “He is the biggest superhero on the planet – the father of every superhero.”

Throwing a not-to-subtle dig at Marvel’s upcoming “Thor” film, Snyder said the “world is out of balance” when Marvel has a “Thor” movie coming out but the “Superman” film franchise is reeling.

Snyder went on to say that even he wasn’t sold on the positive prospects of a new “Superman” movie until he had lunch with producers Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas.

“Before [the meeting] I was like, ‘I don’t know’,” Snyder explained.

His wife and producing partner Deborah Snyder interjected, saying “I said to Zack, ‘I don’t really know about this. Let’s go and see what they have to say. ... [After the meeting] we both left saying ‘Wow! This is great!’”

Although no word yet on the story of the film, several casting announcements have been made and filming is expected to begin later this year with aims for a December 2012 release date.
