Let's just reiterate this right at the start: SPOILER ALERT.
There's some big news today on "The Amazing Spider-Man" that comes from an interview with actor C. Thomas Howell. In his chat, Howell not only outs the identity of the 2012 release's villain but also shares a few key plot points that connect with the end of the movie.
Howell shared the information in an interview on The RetroRadio podcast. He admits that he has a small role in the film, which stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, but that his contribution to the unfolding events is rather significant. The juicy spoiler material is transcribed after the jump (via MovieWeb), so proceed at your own risk.
Here's what Howell had to say:
"There is not a whole lot to talk about. Sony wants us to be hush-hush right now. I play a relatively small role. I play a construction worker who's son is caught in the middle of a battle between the Lizard and Spider-Man on the Manhattan bridge. Spider-Man helps me get my son back from this perilous situation. There is some payback there at the end of the movie. Spider-man is kind of hurting. I help him when all of the other people won't. Part of the story is, the nation thinks he might be a bad guy. They don't know what to think. Because of my experience on the bridge with my kid, I know he is a good guy. I pitch in and help out at the end. That is the best way."
To summarize: The Lizard is our villain, the story in part involves the nation thinking Spidey might be a bad guy and in the story's final, desperate moments, a regular Joe (or C. Thomas Howell, in this case) steps forward to save the day because he knows the wallcrawler really is a good dude despite what people think.
