"Thor" comes to U.S. theaters on May 6 (a.k.a. two weeks after it starts arriving everywhere else). Some people here in the U.S. might call that a crime of superhuman proportions — the sort of thing handled by S.H.I.E.L.D., the world's premiere crime-fighting organization, in fact.
Well, now you can join up with Marvel's international weapon against supervillain threats, thanks to a new viral partnership connected with the May 6 release.
Marvel Studios and Acura teamed up to launch JoinSHIELD.com on April 11, just 10 days shy of the Australia release of "Thor," reports The Daily Blam!. The coming launch was revealed during this weekend's Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo.
At Marvel's C2E2 booth, there was a S.H.I.E.L.D.-branded Acura on display alongside a uniformed soldier and a sign reading "Do You Have What It Takes?" with the JoinSHIELD.com website address posted below it.
There's very little detail revealed on the website right now, though it is up and running for you to check out. Text on the screen reads, "THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING GLOBAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT STRATEGIC HOMELAND INTERVENTION, ENFORCEMENT AND LOGISTICS DIVISION. ONLINE ENTRANCE EXAMS WILL BEGIN IN [a running timer displays here, currently 20 days out]. ENTER YOUR INFORMATION. IF APPROVED, AN AGENT WILL CONTACT YOU." Below the text is a box where web-surfers can enter their e-mail address.
Who knows what sort of opportunities registering with Marvel and Acura's S.H.I.E.L.D. will offer? Travel opportunities? The chance to meet new and interesting (and potentially dangerous) people?
More likely, you'll get some coupons and newsletters, some promotional images and possibly even exclusive access to a TV spot or two to go along with them. You will also, of course, be a fully licensed member of S.H.I.E.L.D., which means you can take the fight to the supervillains yourself.
WARNING: Registering does not actually license you to fight crime as a vigilante.
