'Locke & Key' TV Series Adds Jesse McCartney To Cast

Things have moved quickly for the television adaptation of Joe Hill's comic book series "Locke & Key" since it was first announced. Now, another piece of the puzzle has fallen into place: Jesse McCartney is confirmed for the role of Ty Locke, the series' male lead.

McCartney's casting ends what Deadline says has been an "exhaustive search" to fill out the final main role.

Ty is the oldest of the Locke children in the comic, and the report mentions at least one departure from the source material, indicating that Ty "isolates himself a bit by retreating into his music." The change was likely made to take advantage of McCartney's musical talents.

McCartney joins a cast that already includes Miranda Otto, as Locke matriarch Nina, as well as Sarah Bolger and Skylar Gaertner. playing the other two Locke children, Kinsey and Bode, respectively. The story follows the family as they return to the home of Nina's murdered husband and are held hostage by an evil force that resides there.

Plans formed in August of last year to develop a TV series based on the comics by Hill, the son of novelist Stephen King. "Cowboys & Aliens" writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman linked up with Steven Spielberg to make the series happen, bringing it to Fox as part of a deal they have with the studio. "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" showrunner Josh Friedman was also confirmed at the time as executive producer.

Things moved quickly from there, with a pilot order coming through from Fox, Mark Romanek signing on to directo and the rest of the cast filling out in the months that followed.
