Three Actresses Vying For Superman Reboot's Female Lead, But Not Lois Lane?

The upcoming "Superman" reboot continues to come together. It was only this past Sunday that we learned Henry Cavill was cast in Zack Snyder's reboot. Now, a new report indicates that Warner Bros. has narrowed the shortlist of contenders for the film's lead female role to three actresses: Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike.

There's more to the news though. Variety also reports that the identity of the lead female role isn't known yet, but it is said to not be ace Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane.

Kruger is probably the one whose work you're most familiar with, having had key roles in "Troy," both "National Treasure" movies and, most recently, Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds." She'll appear next with Liam Neeson and January Jones in "Unknown," which hits theaters on February 18.

Eve has a couple of high-profile roles coming up following her starring role in last year's comedy "She's Out of My League." She'll be appearing in "The Raven," James McTeigue's John Cusack-starring Edgar Allen Poe flick, and the Chris Sparling-penned thriller "ATM."

Pike got her breakout in the 2002 James Bond film "Die Another Day." She has since appeared in a range of indie and genre releases, everything from "An Education" and "Barney's Version" to "Doom" and the 2009 comic book adaptation of "Surrogates."

There are some solid choices here, no question. No marquee names, but "Superman" the franchise is marquee enough for mainstream audiences.

Variety also reports that Snyder's search is still on for the villain in "Superman." It seems reasonable to believe that Supes' arch-nemesis Lex Luthor could be the big bad, but if the report about Lois Lane not being the female lead is true, then really anything is possible.

What do you think about the three actresses — and which character do you think they'll play? Could it be Lana Lang? Let us know what you think in the comment section or on Twitter!
