It's funny when you think that "Spider-Man" and "X-Men: First Class" are both shooting right now, and yet the first isn't out until July 2012, while the second is coming our way on June 3 of this year.
That probably has a lot to do with the fact that a sizable portion of what Spidey does while in his costume needs to be filled in by a team of visual effects artists, but it still makes for an interesting comparison.
"X-Men: First Class" is looking good, though — and the idea of a period piece exploring the mutant superteam's '60s roots is pretty great. I can't say these new images, posted to Twitter by iPhone Dev-Team hacker Musclenerd, really evoke the feel of the time, but hey... at least there's a car being crushed by a giant piece of concrete.
From left to right in the top picture you've got Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Oliver Platt and Rose Byrne as, respectively, Raven Darkholme (a.k.a. Mystique), Charles Xavier, "The Man in Black" (not Johnny Cash), and Dr. Moira McTaggert.
They all look pretty concerned — probably because of the aforementioned concrete-crushed car, or whatever caused it. You can see an army vehicle and a couple of soldiers in the background of the car image, which suggests there's been some kind of mutant mayhem.
Everything seems to be moving along fine as Matthew Vaughn continues bringing together "X-Men: First Class" for its June release. And though I wasn't sold on "First Class" when it was first announced, I've definitely come around in the time since then — and that has a lot to do with the casting and the looks we've received at Vaughn's vision.
