If nothing else, it appears that the folks behind the forthcoming “Dredd” adaptation have nailed that helmet on the nose, as the initial photo of Karl Urban dressed as Mega City One’s most iconic judge, jury and executioner was met with approval from most of the character’s fans.
But if that one glimpse wasn’t enough helmet action, perhaps some new photos from “Dredd” helmet sculptor Edmund Woodward will do the trick.
The photos, which come courtesy of Bleeding Cool, show the helmet both in its early prototype phase as well as the full-fledged version we’re bound to see in “Dredd.” Based on these new images, it seems safe to say that Urban is getting his wish when it comes to the character’s iconic helmet.
“If I was to go see a movie called ’Judge Dredd,’ and the actor who played Judge Dredd was to take his helmet off and full-on reveal his face and identity, I would puke in my popcorn,” the actor said of Dredd’s helmet a few months ago. “Dredd is enigmatic, the faceless representative of justice. His prevailing attitudes, his strength of moral character, and the strength of his actions are what speak volumes for that character.”
“If you think about westerns from before, it’s akin to getting to the end of ’The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly’ and realizing, ’Wait a minute. I didn’t even know the Eastwood character’s name!'” he said. “It’s cool.”
