Sure, it’s been cited that Morena Baccarin (of “Firefly” and “Serenity”) was seen at a comic shop near the set of her current vehicle—ABC sci-fi tentpole “V” — collecting "Avengers" back issues, but if any casting rumor could be fueled by sheer physical and circumstantial appropriateness, it’s the one speculating that Baccarin might be cast as Janet van Dyne, a.k.a. The Wasp, the superhero team's most miniscule member.
After all, not only does “Avengers” movie mastermind Joss Whedon have a history of loyalty to the actors cast in his body of work, but Baccarin’s resemblance, topped with the icing that is her current pixie haircut, make the actress the very living likeness of Janet van Dyne.
“I wish I had more information for you,” she said before conceding the more personal assertion, “All I will say is I will never turn down an opportunity to work with him. He’s one of my favorite people in the world.”
In comic history, it was The Wasp that originally adorned “The Avengers” with its memorable moniker as one of the team's founding members along with her eventual spouse Hank Pym, a.k.a. Ant Man. Interestingly, but perhaps not surprisingly, the character’s formative role may not earn The Wasp a place in “The Avengers” final shooting script.
Although, if past Marvel films have taught us anything, it’s to expect surprise cameos and fan-pleasing Easter eggs.
Would Morena Baccarin make the best Wasp imaginable? Do you think we'll see Wasp in "The Avengers", even as just a cameo or DVD Easter egg? Let us know what you think in the comment section or on Twitter!
