Fresh off the unsurprising news that Christopher Nolan will indeed be directing "Batman 3," we took the opportunity to try and get some script/plot scoop from distinguished "Batman Begins" and "Dark Knight" actor Morgan Freeman, who agreed with us about the Nolan news being a non-shocker.
"There was never any doubt in anybody's mind after 'Dark Knight' hit the streets," Freeman said. "We know Warner Brothers would say 'Whatever! What do you want? As long as you give us a third.'"
Naturally, this led us to inquire as to whether Freeman has heard anything more about the production's start date or script details.
"No I don't really know anything at all," he said. "I've heard what you've heard. Spring," he added, confirming earlier rumblings that production on "Batman 3" would begin early next year.
We then reminded Freeman of an earlier interview during which he said he wants Catwoman to be the next villain, and that he has someone specific in mind for the role. Is he still pulling for Catwoman and the aforementioned unnamed actress?
"Well, yes and no," Freeman admitted. "But I don't know if that [villain] is going to be [Nolan's] choice. There's been talk of the Riddler, the Joker — I don't mean the Joker — the Penguin. Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin, and that sounds interesting to me," Freeman said with a smile.
"So we'll wait and see. And there just may be more than one," he added, referencing "The Freezer" [Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze] and other villains in Joel Shumacher's much ballyhooed "Batman and Robin."
However, Freeman agreed that there might not be a place for Mr. Freeze in Christopher Nolan's universe.
In other news, Aaron Eckhart told us he's totally available for a little Two-Face cameo action.
Which actress do you think Freeman has in mind for Catwoman? Also, how many villains is too many for one Batman flick? Let us know what you think in the comment section or on Twitter!
