Discerning which of Brian K. Vaughan’s immensely popular comic book series is most beloved by its fans is close to impossible. While “Y: The Last Man” may have the most mainstream cultural recognition, the impact of “Ex Machina” remains fresh off its August conclusion. There’s no question however, that “Runaways” will be the BKV comic adaptation to reach theaters first.
If reports are correct, the very first bit of “Runaways” casting news may have risen to light. (And we can't say we predicted it.) Speaking to Essence Magazine, 17-year-old “Akeelah and the Bee” star Keke Palmer has admitted to being been tapped for a part.
“I’ve had a nice little break with the steady TV show but I’m definitely ready to do some more films again,” she said. “I was just asked to join a new Marvel comic project called 'Runaways.'"
Is hasn't yet been revealed yet who Palmer — also known from Nickelodeon TV series “True Jackson VP” — could play in the film. Being that she is the first actor cast, could it be possible that Palmer is set to play “Runaways” team leader Nico?
Created in 2003 by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphon, “Runaways” follows a group of teenagers who make the unfortunate discovery that their parents are a team of supervillains called The Pride, prompting the friends to hit the road, discover their own super-abilities and attempt to take their folks out of commission.
In July, it was revealed that the movie would start filming in January 2011, with “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” director Peter Sollett slated to direct after news cemented that the majority of Joss Whedon’s time would be dedicated to directing “The Avengers”.
