Reports are emerging now that another new (this time “Uncanny”) mutant may have been added to the cast. According to ComicBookMovie, Spanish actor Alex González has been tapped to play Janos Quested, a.k.a. Riptide.
Endowed with the ability to spin his body at an incredible rate of speed while generating skin-perforating bone growths he can shoot like shurikens, Riptide was a member of the Marauders, a team of villains brought together by Mr. Sinister to exterminate the sewer-dwelling Morlocks in “Uncanny X-Men.” If the rumor proves true, the film will be González’s first American work.
From Georgia comes more intelligence on one of the movie’s possible settings. According to local news outlet Jacksonville.com, a 20th Century Fox advance crew has been spotted scouting off the coast of the state on Jekyll Island, a picturesque mass of marshes and huge historic buildings like the two-winged Jekyll Island Club Hotel — a possible Hellfire Club Mansion or very early Xavier Institute, perhaps?
Pending the final decision and approval, cast and crew could begin filming on the island as early as next month. Jekyll has previously been used for scenes in “Glory” and “The Legend of Bagger Vance”.
How do you think Riptide, a mutant from the Claremont/Romita era of “Uncanny X-Men”, might be incorporated into “X-Men: First Class”? What do you think of the decision? Let us know what you think in the comment section or on Twitter!
