SECRET IDENTITY: Who Should Play The Wasp In 'The Avengers'?

With Comic-Con International just around the corner, it shouldn't be long before fans get some new official information regarding "The Avengers," the superhero team-up flick featuring the likes of Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. But there are other heroes said to be involved from Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye to the repeated rumors of Nathan Fillion as Hank Pym.

Another Avenger to consider is Janet Van Dyne, the shrinking scientist superhero best known to fans as The Wasp. With few females on the Avengers roster aside from Black Widow, it's a virtual certainty that Wasp will buzz onto the scene when the film hits theaters in 2012 — the only question is, who's going to play her?

After the jump, we've listed a few of the candidates we'd like to see take a sting at Wasp when "The Avengers" assemble on the big screen!

Amy Acker: Mentioned in stride when casting "The Avengers" based on director Joss Whedon's frequently used stable of actors, Amy Acker really is a solid pick for Janet. With beauty, wit and action sensibilities all wrapped in one package, Acker presents the perfect combination for one of Marvel's premiere superheroines. Additionally, her turn as Whiskey on "Dollhouse" proves that Acker is more than capable of playing both a badass and an abused victim all in one stroke, just like Wasp.

Evangeline Lilly: With "Lost" off the air, fans only have the Hugh Jackman-starring "Red Steel" to look forward to for their Evangeline Lilly fix, but the erstwhile Kate Austen could do wonderfully if she found her way to "The Avengers" as Wasp, bringing plenty of experience as an action-centric actress and plenty of familiarity working within a big ensemble cast. If Lilly could survive six seasons lost in that jungle of mystery, there's no question that she could soar as Wasp in "The Avengers."

Grace Park: The "Battlestar Galactica" actress was one of the show's most versatile players thanks to her role as one of the earliest revealed Cylons. Equipped with that same flexibility as well as her take-no-prisoners demeanor during combat sequences, Grace Park would be a real winner as Janet. She's also an ideal physical match if "The Avengers" taps into the Ultimates version of the character.

January Jones: When talking about actresses who know how to play the neglected and emotionally abused housewife, "Mad Men" star January Jones certainly takes the cake. But she's not the type who just sits there and takes a beating — she'll fight back, as seen in the show's third season. A beautiful actress with enormous talent, Jones could bring her Betty Draper sensibilities to "The Avengers" with an emotional performance against whoever ends up inhabiting the role of Hank Pym. Heck, maybe Marvel could even cast Jon Hamm as Hank!

Krysten Ritter: Another AMC alum, "Breaking Bad" actress Krysten Ritter would make for a fantastic Janet Van Dyne. Ritter can play up a sweetheart persona, but she's even better when she's allowed to tap into her sassy side. On top of that, Ritter has a unique beauty in the sense that she almost looks like a comic book character come to life. She's a bit of an unknown quantity, but given the chance, Ritter could make for a perfect Janet.
