Michael Fassbender In Talks To Play Magneto In ‘X-Men: First Class’

Earlier this month, rumors emerged that Michael Fassbender was being courted to appear in both “X-Men: First Class” and the “Spider-Man” reboot. And apparently, the rumors were true.

Michael Fassbender is in early negotiations to play Magneto in “X-Men: First Class,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. However, the report also indicates that Columbia could still woo Fassbender to portray the villain in the next “Spider-Man.” Fassbender has previously appeared in “300,” “Inglourious Bastards” and “Band of Brothers.” He also stars as one of the villains in “Jonah Hex,” which hits theaters today.

The story also states that “Kick-Ass” star Aaron Johnson and
Andrew Garfield (“The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”) are also being courted to appear within the movie. Rosamund Pike has previously been rumored to be in consideration for Emma Frost.

Back in May, James McAvoy signed on to star in “X-Men: First Class” as Professor Xavier. The story reportedly takes place in the earliest days of the “X-Men” with Xavier and Magneto (aka Eric Lehnsherr) working closely together before a violent rift tears them apart.

Recent location scouting for “X-Men: First Class” has drawn speculation that the story will be primarily set in South America.

Less than two months ago, Matthew Vaughn signed on to direct “X-Men: First Class” with the project placed in an “accelerated development” in order to be released next year. Vaughn’s “Kick-Ass” screenwriter Jane Goldman is also reportedly working on the script

“X-Men: First Class” will graduate into theaters on June 3, 2011.
