And while thus far, only James McAvoy has been signed to portray Professor Charles Xavier in the movie, several interesting casting rumors have begun to emerge.
According to a report on Forces of Geek Rosamund Pike is rumored to be up for the role of Emma Frost in "X-Men: First Class." Pike is perhaps best known for her role as Miranda Frost in "Die Another Day" opposite Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Pike has also appeared in "Pride & Prejudice," "Surrogates," "Doom" and "Fracture."
In "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," Emma Frost was portrayed by Tahyna Tozzi near the end of the film, as she and several other mutant prisoners are spirited away to safety by Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart). However, since McAvoy is taking over the part of Xavier, it's not unreasonable to expect that Emma Frost will be recast as well.
Earlier this week, rumors emerged that Michael Fassbender is a leading contender to play either Magneto in "X-Men: First Class" or an unspecified villain in the new "Spider-Man" film.
Recent location scouting for "X-Men: First Class" also seems to indicate that part of the film will be set in South America.
"Kick-Ass" and "Stardust" screenwriter Jane Goldmen is also reportedly writing the script for "X-Men: First Class," which will hit theaters on June 3, 2011.
