A new episode of "Doctor Who" airs this weekend on BBC America, and that means I'm rolling out another brief segment today from my interview with the series' stars, Matt Smith and Karen Gillan.
This time around, the new "Doctor Who" duo discuss the dynamic between themselves and the series' executive producer and lead writer, Steven Moffat, and why there's a little bit of magic in every episode this season.
"No, he has the ideas, and we just turn up and say them," said Smith when asked if Moffat occasionally bounces story ideas off his stars.
"Yeah, we just say the words," laughed Gillan.
Still, with Moffat's status as the creative mind behind some of the series' most celebrated episodes, it's easy to see why the pair are happy to just show up and be a part of the adventures he scripts.
"His mind is so inventive, and he's got these two really interesting little boys," explained Smith. "He gets so many ideas from them. He was born to write this."
The pair indicated that, as with some of Moffat's most well-known episodes like "Blink" and "Silence in the Library," time travel will play an important role in Moffat's plans for the characters this season.
"He really uses time travel to the full," said Gillan.
"What he's managed to do with time in this series is extraordinary," agreed Smith. "It's magic — time travel as a concept is magic."
