FROM MTV MOVIES: Tony Stark is used to having an overabundance of wealth, and that life of luxury isn't likely to change thanks to the highly profitable international debut for director Jon Favreau's "Iron Man 2." The Marvel Studios superhero movie premiered in foreign markets last Thursday and amassed a total of $100.2 million in just five days.
Starring Robert Downey Jr., Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson, "Iron Man 2" debuted in 6,764 locations for a per-screen average of $14,814. The film earned $2.25 million on 48 IMAX screens for a $47,000 per-screen average.
Additionally, "Iron Man 2" opened in first place in all but one of 53 foreign markets, missing the mark only in Colombia. Its greatest performance was in the United Kingdom with a $12.2 million haul from 528 locations, with similarly strong showings including $10.8 million earned in South Korea, $8.8 million in France, $8.2 million in Russia and $7.3 million in Mexico.
