'Smallville' Season Finale To Feature Return Of Black Canary

Krypton Site reports that actress Alaina Huffman will reprise her role as Black Canary on the season finale of "Smallville." The episode, which airs on May 14th, is titled "Salvation."

It's currently unknown which other DC Comics icons will join her for the episode, but "Absolute Justice" writer and DC Entertainment's chief creative officer Geoff Johns previously revealed that the Justice Society — a group that includes Doctor Fate and Hawkman — would make a return in time for the season's final episodes.

While Dinah Lance hasn't been seen on "Smallville" since last year's season finale, "Doomsday," her presence has been felt throughout the currently airing season. An off-screen Dinah used her Canary Cry earlier in the season as Oliver Queen attempted to reclaim his mantle as Green Arrow. Additionally, Oliver and Dinah have exchanged e-mails back and forth over the course of the season, as discovered by longtime "Smallville" regular Chloe Sullivan — a correspondence that Oliver insists is purely platonic.

Dinah's return to "Smallville" is a welcome one for fans of the character, as her chances of appearing on the big screen in the near future are slim. Although Green Arrow is slated to headline the long developing "Super Max" from David Goyer, Black Canary is allegedly not a part of the movie.

"I mean, right now he's in prison. It's the kind of thing where I know there's talk of working with her, and she's obviously a huge part of Ollie's life and now that they're married especially," former "Super Max" writer Justin Marks told MTV News back in 2008. "[But] I don't know. I don't know how they're kind of planning on doing it."
