A new marketing campaign has launched on behalf of director Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man 2,” the upcoming superhero sequel starring Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle and Gwyneth Paltrow. Fans can now visit a website dedicated to Stark Expo 2010, an event that takes place over the course of the movie with plenty of technological wonder and action sequences galore.
As part of the web launch, fans are able to view two fictional promotions for Stark Expo 2010, set to launch in 37 days — which, coincidentally, is May 7, 2010, the release date for “Iron Man 2.”
“Stark Industries promotes better living through technology,” a woman’s voice cooly claims during one promotional spot. “We’re working on building a better planet for tomorrow today. Stark Expo 2010 — witness the future firsthand.”
“This isn’t just a business — to me, it’s a dream,” says Howard Stark in a retro video for the 1974 Stark Expo. The video provides our best look yet at “Mad Men” actor John Slattery’s portrayal of Tony Stark’s father.
So, what exactly could Stark Expo 2010 be counting down until — aside from the obvious theatrical release, that is? We’ve already seen plenty of trailers, posters and promotional images for “Iron Man 2,” so what more can we possibly see without ruining some of the greatest surprises of the film?
Perhaps the “tickets available soon” section is our best clue as to the true nature of Stark Expo 2010 — perhaps a few lucky fans are going to have the opportunity to see a very special screening of “Iron Man 2.” For now, we’ll have to wait and see what the existence of this website means for Tony Stark’s next big-screen adventure.
