‘Red’ Gets New Release Date

The adaptation of Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner’s “Red” already has an all-star cast in Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John C. Reilly and Mary-Louise Parker, and now it has a new release date, too.

According to Variety, Summit Entertainment has tagged October 22, 2010, as the premiere date for the spy thriller based on the Wildstorm comic book series. “The Time Traveler’s Wife” director Robert Schwentke will helm the film, which he described to MTV News as a “funny” take on the source material.

Recently, Ellis himself offered up some thoughts on the film’s script, stating many of the changes were necessary to adapt the shorter story of the comic into a full-length film.

With its new release date, “Red” is scheduled to go up against “Saw VII” and “Prisoners” the same weekend.
