This week, we're celebrating the actors and filmmakers we're thankful for with a series of exclusive interviews about the projects that kept them on our minds all year 'round. One such filmmaker is "Inglourious Basterds" writer/director Quentin Tarantino, who mentioned a particularly interesting source of inspiration for his World War II-themed tale that hit theaters earlier this year.
"[The Basterds] are kind of comic booky," Tarantino told MTV News. "A big influence on the Basterds was Marvel Comics' 'Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos.' That was definitely an influence on that flick."
While it's not too difficult to see the similarities between Tarantino's ragtag, scalp-hunting Basterds and Sgt. Fury's wartime crew, it's certainly interesting to have Tarantino name-drop the Marvel characters as source material for "Basterds."
