The sequel to "30 Days of Night" is currently underway in Vancouver with director Ben Ketai at the helm and actors Kiele Sanchez, Mia Kirshner, Diora Baird and Harold Perrineau in front of the lens. Set reports and photographs are already finding their way online, giving fans just enough information about the sequel to whet their bloodthirsty appetites.
Over at Ain't It Cool News, the first official image from "30 Days of Night: Dark Days" has reared its head, showing the aforementioned Sanchez as leading lady Stella Oleson. The knife-wielding heroine boasts more than a few wounds and bloodstains, showing that Stella's vengeance quest against the vampires who killed her husband might not go so smoothly.
Meanwhile, Bloody Disgusting has posted a snippet from their recent visit to the set of "Dark Days." According to the article, the production desig —including "the very textures of the buildings and neon signs"—indicates that Ketai and his team have "done a fantastic job capturing the atmosphere and tone of the series." Additionally, the set is described as having "a war-torn vibe."
"While the last one was almost sort of a western... Ben's approaching this one like a war film," producer J.R. Young said of the movie's war influences.
Bloody Disgusting also described a scene involving actress Katherine Isabelle as involving "a skimpy blue nightgown, fifty degree weather, and a highly unorthodox vampiric initiation ritual. Really screwed up, intense stuff."
Aside from war undertones, scantily clad women and an adherence to the source material, "Dark Days" will focus on the vampire's language and "the best way to tear out a human throat." Judging from the sound of the set visit and the first official image from the film, "Dark Days" won't be skimping in the gore department.
