Obama Joker Posters: Not Your Typical Comic Book Cameo

Obama Joker PicIt's no secret that current U.S. President Barack Obama is one of the most comics-friendly Commanders-in-Chief to set foot in the White House, but the latest crossover between Obama and the comic book world doesn't seem to carry with it the same good-natured fun as his prior cameos.

According to various reports, posters depicting Obama made up to look like Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker in "The Dark Knight" have been popping up in Los Angeles and other cities. Beneath the poster is printed the word "socialism."

While political pundits are having a field day debating the good and bad of the image, there's been no word thus far on who actually created it.

What is known, however, is that the Obama/Joker mash-up is simply the latest in a long line of cameos for the President in comics -- and not the first one involving Batman's nemesis, either.

Back in November, we told you about artist James Lillis' "The Audacity of Joke" print that spoofed the now-iconic Shepard Fairey's "Hope," placing an image of Heath Ledger's villainous character in the familiar red, white and blue image. Since then, there's been no stopping the U.S. President's run in comics, as Obama has appeared in everything from Marvel Comics' "Amazing Spider-Man" to Dynamite Entertainment's "Army of Darkness" series.

What do you think of the Obama/Joker "Socialism" posters? A clever political statement or has the Obama/Joker thing officially jumped the shark?
