Just when the "Batman" news couldn't possibly get more depressing, here comes Neil Patrick Harris to save the day. The former Dr. Horrible is going head-to-head with the Dark Knight -- in animated form, at least.
The "How I Met Your Mother" actor will provide the voice for the Music Meister, a brand-new villain created specifically for "Batman: The Brave and the Bold." Harris' character will appear in an episode called "Mayhem of the Music Meister!," set to debut during Comic-Con International.
In the episode, the Music Meister -- a bad guy that's allegedly "a combination of various DC Comics villains," according to Buddy TV -- sets about the globe, using his powers of spontaneous song construction to dominate the world.
Sounds a little thin? That's because it is, as "Brave and the Bold" producer James Tucker freely admitted to Buddy TV: "[The] plot itself is just a framework, an excuse to have everybody sing!"
Neil Patrick Harris is well-versed both in song and geekdom, having previously combined the two in Joss Whedon's internet series "Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog." The series -- which Whedon said would make for a great comic book -- certainly prepared Harris for the Music Meister, a role which Tucker said the actor pulled off with ease.
"[It's] something [Harris can] contend with, as opposed to just a lark," he said. "It feels polished because of his vocals. And not just his singing, but his acting as the character, too. He nailed it. I showed him some drawings [of the character] and he got it instantly."
"Mayhem of the Music Meister!" will premiere at Comic-Con International's "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" panel on Friday, July 24 at 10:00 AM PST.
