“Back in October, [Edgar] whips out his laptop and he shows me a rough sequence of one of the fight scenes, staged out with just some stunt actors,” Webber told MTV News. “I have such a hard time describing it other than that Scott’s character was flying through the air, and when there was a kick, there was — stuff! But it looked so realistic.”
The original Oni Press comics by Bryan Lee O’Malley are drenched in over-the-top kung-fu and ninja antics, often done in homage scenes to video game battles. Webber only got to see test footage demonstrating what Wright wants to do — but he was more than impressed.
“The technology was totally out of my realm,” the actor said. “I don’t even know what half this stuff is, but I get the sense that we’re all into something new, and it’s definitely his unique way of making a film.”
