‘Marvel Super Hero Squad’ Animated Series Heads To Cartoon Network

If you’re an unabashed toy geek like me, then not only are you green with envy over those who got to go to Toy Fair this past weekend in New York City, but you’re also well aware of Marvel’s “Super Hero Squad” line of action figures. True, the line is geared toward the younger set, but where else are you gonna find a sweet “Punisher as Captain America” figure? (Seriously, let me know!)

Likewise, the news announced today in Variety should also perk up the ears of plastic heads everywhere, as Cartoon Network has ordered 26 episodes based on the toy line for an all new animated series. According to the report, the show will find cute lil’ versions of Captain America, Silver Surfer, Hulk, Wolverine and Iron Man teaming up to fight adorable renditions of classic Marvel baddies, with a scheduled premiere date for later this year.

It seems as if the show has been placed on a fast-track, too — as vocal talents have already been attached to the half-hour series, including Tom Kenny (“SpongeBob SquarePants”), Charlie Adler (“Transformers”), Steve Blum (“Wolverine and the X-Men“) and Grey DeLisle (“The Fairly OddParents,” “The Replacements”). Alan Fine, Simon Phillips and Eric S. Rollman will executive produce.

The series will find itself in good geek company, as it joins a lineup that includes the nerd-approved “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Batman: The Brave and the Bold.”

Will you be checking out a cartoon based on “Marvel Super Hero Squad,” or do your tastes run more towards the darker-toned animated series? Let’s hear it in the comments, peeps!
