One would assume that being known throughout the world as the man behind the Spider-Man mask (now as well as in the years to come) would be enough to keep Tobey Maguire's inner-fanboy satisfied, but it appears as though the actor-turned-burgeoning producer can't get enough of comic books.
Case in point, after recently securing the rights to "Afterburn" -- a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi adventure based on the Red 5 Comics series -- Maguire's Maguire Entertainment (along with Neal Moritz's Original Films) have put the project on the fast track and hired up-and-coming screenwriter Matt Johnson (whose latest work includes "Torque" and "Into the Blue") to pen the script for the adaptation, according to The Hollywood Reporter today.
As mentioned, "Afterburn" takes place after a solar flare wipes out most life on Earth, and follows a band of surviving treasure hunters who seek out such priceless items as the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone and the Crown Jewels. And given that life just can't be all fun and games in a post-apocalyptic setting, the crew naturally must face off against mutants, pirates and rival treasure hunters.
Have you read "Afterburn" yet? If so, what did you think of the story, and who would you like to see cast for the film? We want to hear your thoughts in the comments!
